Today is a sad day.
Every Tuesday is a sad day.
I volunteer at the Floyd County Animal Shelter and there are so many sweet cats and dogs that are brought in daily.
The reasons are varied... moving and cannot take with; she keeps getting pregnant (no duh!!! you, THE OWNER, have to do something about it); these were just dumped on my property; ...
Bottom line, these wonderful babies are kept for a few days, but on Wednesdays, unless they have been adopted/rescued, they have to be euthanized to make room for all the ones that will come in the following week.
Tuesday is the last chance they get to go home with a loving individual/family.
Cats and kittens are especially at risk as there are not many (I don't know of any, really) rescue groups for these wonderful furry friends. And they multiply faster than dogs!
My heart breaks and tears start pouring down when I enter the room they temporarily occupy.
I don't know how to help. I wish I could build a rescue shelter for them, where they can be spayed and neutered and then stay until good homes are found for them.
If I were a lucky person, I would play the lottery and use that money to do just that...
But I am not lucky with such games.
If you have room in your home and in your heart, please check out the website and see if you can find a wonderful pet to bring home with you.
If you are local, come by and play with them.
If you cannot do either, please post on your Facebook, My Space, Twitter, or e-mail your friends.
Who knows... someone you know might be looking for a sweet pet to call their own!
