For those who have lost loved ones, it is a hard time of the year. I am not saying that the rest of they year is not hard as there are other celebrations where our loved ones are missed. However, it seems that this time of year is worse as it is the time that families travel distances to celebrate together.
How can we find peace and comfort during this time?
For me, this peace and comfort come from knowing that families are forever...
One of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ core beliefs is that family relationships can last forever—not just for this life.
Just as some of life’s sweetest joys can come through family associations, the loss of a beloved family member can be a source of our deepest sorrows.
But death does not need to be the end of our relationships with cherished loved ones. The Lord revealed to the Prophet Joseph Smith that the “same sociality which exists among us here will exist among us there [in eternity], only it will be coupled with eternal glory” (Doctrine and Covenants 130:2).
I still miss being able to hug, hold, talk to, and do all other activities we do with those who are still with us. I would not be honest if I were to say that it does not hurt. But, I find comfort in the knowledge that, if I follow Christ's example, I will be able to see and be with my loved ones again and, once again, enjoy my time with them and, this time, for all eternity!
I hope that this message will bring some hope, peace, and comfort to those of you who are missing someone who is a very important part of your life. Hold on to the sweet memories, hold on to your love for them, and know that you will see and be with them again!
